Soraya Navia is a fiber artist, embroidery instructor and graphic designer based in Queens, NY. She received her BFA in Graphic Design from New York Institute of Technology. Learning the patient craft of embroidery and needlework was, at first, a means of relaxing. She now uses this art form to create and sell original embroidery pieces and to teach others about the wonderful world of fabric and thread. Soraya often embroiders for hours each day and uses her technical design skills and love of texture to produce handmade works of art.
Read about her process here and follow her work on Instagram and Etsy.
Soraya has taught embroidery workshops at the Queens Botanical Garden, Nassau County Museum of Art, Stay Forever, and other studios across NYC. Some of her embroidery clients have included Gucci, Birkenstock, Erborian, Janis Studios, Court & Rowe, and Nordstrom.
As a 2020 QAF New Works Grant Awardee, Soraya is currently working on her first solo show, "With Every Fiber of Our Being" which will be exhibited at the Queens Botanical Garden this year.
